MEETING "SCIENCE DESPITE WAR" ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD SCIENCE DAY FOR PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

On November 9, 2023, Riabchun Viktor Kuzmych, Deputy Director for Research on Plant Genetic Resources, participated in the meeting "Science Despite War", which was organized by the North-Eastern Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine together with the Kharkiv Regional Military-Civil Administration and the Kharkiv Regional Council. Leading scientists of research institutions, higher educational institutions, teachers of lyceums, and representatives of private businesses were invited to the meeting.

The participants were greeted by the Head of the Kharkiv Military-Civilian Administration, Oleh Vasyliovych Synehubov. He highly appreciated scientists' work in the Kharkivska Oblast under martial law. Scientists make significant contributions to strengthening defense capabilities and functioning of all areas of people's lives in the region.

The Director of the Science and Education Department of the Kharkiv Military-Civilian Administration, Bezpalova O.I., characterized the implementation of scientific projects: state, grant, and commercial. The President of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, A.H. Zavhorodnii, addressed the participants with a video greeting.

Sinehubov O.V. presented awards to leading scientists of the Kharkivska Oblast. The Deputy Director for Research on Plant Genetic ResourcesDeputy director for scientific work with genetic resources, Head of the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources, V.K. Riabchun, was awarded an honorary certificate of the Kharkiv Regional Military-Civil Administration. Under his leadership, the staff of the Plant Production Institute made a lot of efforts during the months of the war with the Russian Federation to duplicate samples and move them to safer regions of Ukraine. This made an uninterrupted supply of plant gene pool samples to Ukrainian scientists and educators possible. Academician V.P. Semynozhenko, the Head of the North-Eastern Scientific Center, gave his congratulations and presented awards of NAS of Sciences of Ukraine to research teams and scientists of the Kharkivska Oblast.
