MEETING OF THE COORDINATION AND METHODOLOGICAL COUNCIL ON RESEARCH PROGRAM 17 "FORMATION AND USE OF PLANT GENETIC RESOURCE BANK" (PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES)

The Yuriev Plant Production Institute of NAAS held an online meeting of the Coordination and Methodological Council on Research Program (RP) 17 “Formation and Use of Plant Genetic Resource Bank (Plant Genetic Resources)” on November 25, 2025. The meeting was attended by the heads and principal investigators of RP 17 "Plant Genetic Resources" from 26 NAAS research institutions, with a total of 39 participants. The participants heard a scientific report titled "Scientific Foundations for the Storage of Gene Pool Accessions of Fruit, Berry, and Nut Crops," presented by Anna Trokhymchuk, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences from the Institute of Horticulture of NAAS. The report detailed a state-of-the-art methodology for forming and preserving fruit and berry collections, as well as the identification of sources for valuable traits. Viktor Riabchun, Candidate of Biological Sciences and Head of RP 17 "Plant Genetic Resources," presented an analysis of the project fulfillment within the program. His report focused on enriching collections, their information support, and long-term preservation in both the National and duplicate depositories. Particular attention was given to refining terminology, names of accessions, and their countries of origin; these measures aim to enhance the quality of study reports and improve the management of the "Plant Gene Pool" Information System. The research results will be published in peer-reviewed professional journals.
