MEETING OF THE COORDINATION AND METHODOLOGICAL COUNCIL ON RESEARCH PROGRAM 16 "SUNFLOWER: BASICS OF PRODUCTION PROCESS MANAGEMENT"

On November 21, 2023, an online meeting of the Coordinating and Methodological Council of Scientific Program (SP) 16 "Sunflower: Basics of Production Process Management" of NAAS was held (the main institution is the Yuriev Plant Production Institute of NAAS). Supervisors and responsible executors of the projects within SP 16  from 6 research institutions of NAAS were present, a total of 14 participants. The meeting was opened by the SP Head, NAAS Academician, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Viktor Vasyliovych Kyrychenko.

At the meeting, a contribution report "Scientific and Methodical Principles for Creating Sunflower Lines and Hybrids with High Quality Parameters" was presented by V.V. Kyrychenko. The speaker emphasized the importance of creating sunflower starting materials at a new genetic level, with high quality parameters, adapted to climatic changes in growing conditions.

The participants of the meeting discussed, clarified, and approved the reports for 2023: 14 in total, 3 of them were reports of fundamental studies and 11 - of applied studies. It was decided to close 11 applied projects.

The practical result of the conducted studies was the submission of five sunflower hybrids (with various lengths of growing periods, for oil and confectionary uses, resistant to herbicides of some chemical classes) to the state variety trials. In 2023, nine scientific and practical guidelines were issued. Nineteen inbred lines were registered with the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine. Two catalogs of starting materials were published. Three inventions were patented.
