MEETING OF THE COORDINATION AND METHODOLOGICAL COUNCIL ON RESEARCH PROGRAM 14 "BIOTECHNOLOGY AND GENETICS IN PLANT PRODUCTION"

On July 14, 2023, employees of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev participated in an online meeting of the Coordination and Methodical Council on NAAS research program 14 "Biotechnology and Genetics in Plant breeding". Under the chairmanship of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Corresponding Member of NAAS of Ukraine, Deputy Director for Science of the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute - National Centre of Seed & Cultivar Investigation Viktor Fait, the program results for the first half of 2023 were summarized. The Head of the Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Yurii Kolupaiev gave the talk "New Compounds with Hormonal Activity and Express Methods for Investigating Their Antistress-Protective Effects on Cereals." He presented the first domestic results on the influence of melatonin and gamma-aminobutyric acid on tolerance of different wheat genotypes to high temperatures and dehydration in the early phases of development. At the meeting, reviewers analyzed the progress of studies in the following areas: Development and Improvement of Molecular Biotechnologies and Methods of Evaluation and Selection of Genotypes; Biotechnological, Genetic, Physiological, and Biochemical Bases of Resistance to Biotic and Abiotic Stressors and Identification of New Starting Materials; and Development of Methods of Creation, Reproduction, Improvement and Evaluation of Homozygous Breeding Material Based on In Vitro Cell and Tissue Cultivation. In general, 9 NAAS institutions are performing 13 projects within the program "Biotechnology and Genetics in Plant Production” in 2023. High effectiveness of the project performance by units of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS was noted.
