WORKING VISIT OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UN (FAO)

On June 20, 2022, the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS was visited by representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The meeting was intended to acquaint the representatives with scientific mainstreams of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS, the System of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine and the Plant GeneBank of Ukraine.

Acting Director of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Kuzmyshina N.V. and Deputy Director for Scientific Work with Plant Genetic Resources, Candidate of Biological Sciences Riabchun V.K., gave presentations about scientific achievements of the Institute and the Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine.

The following specialists participated in the discussion of the talks: appointed responsible FAO official, Head of the Office in Ukraine, Pierre Vauthier; regional coordinator of FAO Olena Safarova; Head of the Department of the Novel Breeding and Seed Technologies, NAAS Academician V.V. Kyrychenko; Head of the Laboratory of Wheat Breeding and Physiology, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Leonov O.Yu.

During the meeting, attention was paid to the challenges of preserving samples of the gene pool of plants, ensuring scientific studies of plant genetic resources in wartime and possibilities of FAO assistance to solve them.
