WORKSHOP ON PROTECTION OF THE AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE OF UKRAINE IN BONN, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
From June 26 to July 1, 2023, the Deputy Director for for Research on Plant Genetic Resources of the Plant Production Institute (PPI) named after V.Ya. Yuriev, Candidate of Biological Sciences Riabchun Viktor Kuzmych; leading researchers of the Laboratory of Introduction and Preservation of Plant Genetic Resources, Candidates of Biological Sciences Roman Lvovych Bohuslavskyi and Zadorozhna Olha Anatoliivna; and the Acting Deputy Director for Science of Ustymivka Experimental Station of Plant Production of PPI NAAS, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Tryhub Oleh Volodymyrovych participated in a workshop on protection of the agricultural heritage of Ukraine (ensuring long-term sustainable preservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture) in Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany.
The workshop was organized by the Global Crop Diversity Trust (Crop Trust), a non-profit international organization dedicated to preservation of agricultural crop diversity, which was founded by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Bioversity International on behalf of CGIAR to sustainably support the global system of plant preservation and use.
At the workshop, there were presentations and discussions on the extraordinary FAO project in Ukraine, which is funded by the EU; the current state of the National Plant Gene Bank and the System of Plant Genetic Resources; the role of Ustymivka Experimental Station of Plant Production of PPI NAAS in enrichment and preservation of the National Plant Gene Bank of Ukraine and in development strategies and needs of institutions of the plant genetic resource network of Ukraine for the present and the near future.
