SURVEY OF THE WINTER WHEAT AND WINTER BARLEY VARIETIES AT THE KHARKIV BRANCH OF UIPVE

The 2022-2023 winter had little snow and unstable temperature. Under such conditions, winter cereals with insufficient frost tolerance and winter hardiness are at risk. In accordance with the concluded agreement on creative cooperation on conducting joint scientific research, specialists of Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS (Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Chief Researcher N.I. Riabchun and Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Head of the Immunity, Biotechnology and Quality Laboratory Ye.Yu. Kucherenko), Director of the UIPVE branch V.Yu. Bolotov and Head of Field Research Sector V.A. Kovratenko surveyed experimental plots of winter and alternate wheat and barley varieties. The survey demonstrated a significant differentiation of the varieties by overwintering level - from 70% of living plants to almost complete death. Development of root rot was detected on winter barley plants; it was especially significant in underdeveloped varieties.
