Plants to Enrich the Mulberry Gene Pool Collection of the NSC "Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine" and to Use in Breeding" (Laboratory of Silkworm Breeding and Technical Entomology of the NSC "Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine"

In the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing, supervisor and executors of the project, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Mitenko IM, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Kondratenko SI, and senior Researcher Krutko RV presented their study according to the work plan for 2021. Accessions of tomato, pepper and eggplant are assessed in unheated greenhouses on drip irrigation. The genetic diversity of these crops significantly enriches the National Plant Gene Bank of Ukraine. Accessions of radish, onion, carrot, beet, and other crops are assessed in the field on drip irrigation. Various accessions of watermelon are grown under rainfed conditions.

The issues of acceleration of putting up vegetable accessions for long-term storage, of completion of inventory of collection specimens and of their effective introduction were discussed.

The project is performed in full.

The mulberry collection as a national asset is maintained by the Laboratory of Mulberry Breeding and Technical Entomology of the NSC "Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine” of NAAS and consists of 115 specimens, 106 of which have been certified. In order to complete the project, it is necessary to solve personnel issues, a number of logistic problems and mulberry investigation challenges.
