COORDINATION AND METHODOLOGICAL COUNCIL OF RESEARCH PROGRAM 16 "SUNFLOWER"

On July 22, 2022, an online meeting of the Coordination and Methodological Council of NAAS Research Program 16 "Sunflower: Basics of Production Process Management" was held (the main institution is the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS). Supervisors and responsible executors of the Program projects from six NAAS research institutions were present, totally 15 participants. The meeting was opened by Program Head, NAAS Academician, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Viktor Vasyliovych Kyrychenko. At the meeting, a scientific report "The State and Prospects of Sunflower Breeding and Seed Production in Wartime" was heard (speaker V.V. Kyrychenko).

The participants of the meeting discussed, clarified and approved of the reports for the first half of 2022; totally 14 reports; of them, 3 were reports of fundamental studies and 11 were reports of applied studies. The main goal of the Program is as follows: theoretical substantiation and determination of effective management measures for the sunflower production in major areas of the crop cultivation in Ukraine; theoretical justification of using the heterosis effect in sunflower hybrids derived from mixing parental germplasms of different origins for various combinations of desirable traits, including tolerance to climatic changes, resistance to common diseases, improved fatty acid composition of oil and technological suitability for modern cultivation technologies; establishment of seed productivity variability patterns depending on fertilization, tillage, timeframes and methods of application of growth biostimulators and microfertilizers as well as on the agroclimatic conditions of a growing zone; development and introduction into breeding and seed production of elements of environmentally safe, energy-saving technologies for the production of sunflower seeds with increased sowing qualities and yielding capacities and of effective methods of post-harvest processing of seeds. During the meeting, a proposal was made to strengthen publishing activities, to more actively highlight results of the joint work of scientists from co-executive institutions of the Research Program.
