FIELD DAY: "Peculiarities of Cultivating Cereals, Grain Legumes, and Industrial Crops in a Sharply Continental Climate"
On September 11, 2025, researchers from the Yuriev Plant Production Institute of NAAS participated in the International Field Day, a scientific and practical seminar titled "Peculiarities of Cultivating Cereal, Grain Legumes, and Industrial Crops in a Sharply Continental Climate". The event took place at the research and innovation testing grounds of the Institute of Agriculture of the Steppe of NAAS (Sozonivka, Kirovohradska Oblast).
The event brought together farmers, scientists, educators, agricultural students, and representatives of distribution companies.
The seminar was opened with welcoming remarks by the Head of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, Andrii Raikovych, and the Chairman of the Regional Council, Yurii Drozd.
The Field Day showcased state-of-the-art technological approaches to increasing crop productivity under climate change, including new maize and sunflower cultivars and hybrids, fertilizers, plant protection products, and agricultural machinery. Approximately 300 participants attended the event.
Representing the Yuriev Plant Production Institute were Senior Researcher V. Andriienko, Head of Laboratory S. Ponurenko, and Senior Researcher O. Syvenko. They presented new sunflower and maize hybrids designed for various end-uses. These hybrids feature specific technological cultivation aspects, high yield and quality potentials, and resilience to adverse environmental factors.
During the event, the Institute's staff also familiarized themselves with the achievements of other breeding companies in sunflower and maize development.
