On June 27, 2024, Field Day 2024 "Breeding and Technological Achievements of the Yuriev Plant Production Institute of NAAS" was held at the Yuriev Plant Production Institute of NAAS.
The event was held online using the Institute's official website and YouTube channel; the information was shared on Facebook.
The Institute's official website contains information on the areas of scientific activities of the Institute and practical results on the creation of innovative cultivars and hybrids of winter and early spring cereals and grain legumes.
Oleh LEONOV, the acting director of the Institute, greeted the visitors of Field Day 2024 and the Institute's website in a video clip. He noted that despite the rocky times and the impossibility of traditionally holding this year's Field Day, with visits to demonstration plots, the Institute was going to present breeding achievements, which were worthy of paying farmers' and seed producers' attention. As of 2024, 239 cultivars and hybrids bred at the Institute are in the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine; most of them are already well-known among farmers due to their adaptability to climatic changes, high productivity, and quality. 154 breeding innovations are supported by the Institute. Top-quality seeds are offered for sale.
At Field Day 2024 (online), it was proposed to get acquainted with the new cultivars of winter and spring cereals and grain legumes bred by the Institute: winter wheat, winter triticale, winter rye, spring durum wheat, spring barley, spring triticale and pea, which were presented by leading breeders at the demonstration and research fields. In short videos, leading breeders Oleh LEONOV, Dmytro YEHOROV, Hennadii SHCHYPAK, Oleh HOLIK, Pavlo SOLONECHNYI, Serhii CHERNOBAI, and Antonina VASYLENKO provided information about the best breeding developments, their features and advantages, and gave general recommendations for growing them. The link to the catalog of cultivars and hybrids bred at the Institute was also provided; the catalog contains detailed data on these developments. All interested visitors of the site were invited to receive additional information and advice on growing the cultivars and hybrids directly from breeders and specialists using the provided contacts. Offers for cooperation were also expressed.
