Young Researcher Board

The primary purpose of the Young Researcher Board (YRB) of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuryev of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine is a multifaceted assistance in research, inventive and creative activities of young scientists, provision of a systematic approach to training highly qualified scientific personnel, preservation and development of the Plant Production Institute’s intellectual potential.

To accomplish this purpose, the YRB motivates young scientists to actively participate in research and social activities of the Plant Production Institute, National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and institutions that are part of its network. Another objective of the YRB is the formation and development of personal scientific and moral values of each member of the young community.

The YRB consists of post-graduate students and researchers under the age of 35 inclusive. Today, our Board (as of February 1, 2019) has 37 members, including 13 candidates of agricultural sciences and 1 doctor of agricultural sciences.

The Young Researcher Board acts through general meetings, during which young researchers’ results in plant production, breeding, genetics, seed production, physiology, plant protection, as well as current issues are reviewed and discussed.

Such meetings give young researchers an opportunity not only to improve their theoretical and practical skills, but also to practice the technique of giving talks and refine the ability to cogently assert and defend their scientific results in the face of a wide audience of colleagues.

Every two years, according to the plan, the Young Researcher Board holds international scientific-practical conferences of young researchers. The conferences are focused on the development and implementation of new scientific achievements in genetics, breeding and plant production and are held at the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS.

Every year, young researchers of the Institute actively implement their scientific results in production and acquaint the general population with their achievements.

Every year, the YRB representatives take part and win prizes in the following competitions: the Prize of the Presidium of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine "For the best Scientific Talk of a Young Researcher of NAAS in Fundamental and Applied Studies", the Prize of President of Ukraine for young scientists, the prize of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “For Special Achievements of the Youth in the Development of Ukraine", scholarships of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, awards for the best scientific work among young scientists of the Kharkivska Oblast.

Young researchers fruitfully cooperate with the Kharkiv Regional Agricultural Advisory Service, the Chief Department of Agricultural Development at the Kharkiv Regional State Administration and the Center for Scientific Support of the Agribusiness in the Kharkivska Oblast.

To encourage the activities of young people, the activities of young researchers of the Plant Production Institute named after V.Ya. Yuriev of NAAS are annually rated, and nine winners are selected according to their scores: three post-graduate students (1st, 2nd and 3rd places) and six researchers (one 1st place, two 2nd places, and three 3rd places). Each winner gets a one-off prize from the special fund of the Institute.
